B-18/19\, 8134 Mesa Drive (78759)\nFall 2025 registration begins August 13\, 2025 at noon\nRegister via Austin LLI’s website\, https://www.lliaustin.org/courses\n(REGISTER THAT DAY as these classes sell out!)\nThe goal of the class will be to conduct historical and genealogical research for families who traveled through the Southeastern U.S.\nThe states where research may be highlighted include Alabama\, Arkansas\, Florida\, Georgia\, Kentucky\, Louisiana\, Maryland\, Mississippi\, North Carolina\, South Carolina\, Tennessee\, and Virginia.\nAs we go state by state\, we will use FamilySearch Research Wiki’s Migrations section\, delving into each state’s trails\, routes\, and paths. We will use AI for historical content and context and locate and use historic maps. Genealogical records will be searched as the class moves along the migration paths.\nThis class will be on Monday afternoons for six weeks and includes instructions and handouts. We will discuss how to scan and edit photos and screen capture and edit images. We will use Google Drive (and other Cloud-based repositories)\, research on social media (Facebook) and use other research sites (Library of Congress\, state resources\, etc.) to help you build a family story (and cite your sources). We will find birth\, marriage\, death\, and burial records\, passenger lists and passports\, address or location searches (using census records\, directories\, and historic maps)\, and military records. We will review basic paleography techniques (in reading wills and land records) and find ancestor’s interests and occupations (using guild records and newspapers).
